It’s Water Saving Week
Repairs Emergency repair 14/05/2024
Water Saving Week is run by WaterWise and takes place this year from 13th – 17th May. It highlights why it’s so important for us not to waste our water.
This year the focus is all on the individual – the little changes we can all make, that add up to make a big difference!
We want to make sure our homes are as water efficient as possible, which is why we’ve teamed up with Severn Trent to offer home water efficiency checks.
How can I save water at home?
There are also lots of simple things you can do to save water. Here are a few we’ve pulled together:
- Turn the tap off when brushing your teeth
- Use the correct button when flushing the toilet (half flush/full flush)
- Fill up a washing bowl with warm soapy water when cleaning the dishes and then rinse them all afterwards, to save turning the tap on and off
- If you have a dishwasher, fill it completely before turning it on
- Be sure to report dripping taps and leaking toilets – You can do this by using our app. Search for 'Midland Heart' on the App store for iPhone or Google Play for Android
- When you’re having a shower, keep it under 4 minutes
- When you’re making a hot drink, only fill the kettle with the amount of water you need
- Keep a rainwater barrel in the garden so you can collect water each time it rains. The water can then be used to water indoor and outdoor plants
- Steaming your vegetables instead of boiling them can save an average of 500ml per saucepan

If you have any leaky taps, toilets or shower heads, then please report it through our app, or by calling the Hub on 0345 60 20 540 as soon as possible. We’ll send a member of our maintenance team to come and take a look.
